I tried it last year. The tanning salons sell packages. I bought a package of 3 visits for $50.00, and it included the lotions to maintain the color and the neuturalizer for the odor. Yes there is a distinct odor, and you risk a temporary orange stain on some body parts. If you've never done it, you may not want to do it just before a date. Mine lasted about a week, and I had to live with the tops of my feet and toes stained orange for a week 1/2. It looked like I'd been eating cheetos with my feet. I never went back for the other visits. If you're insistent in having a tan, or color, I would suggest a tanning bed (you know the long time risks) or try make up. Visit the make up counters at your higher priced stores in your local mall. They make a great powder that looks natural and the more you apply, the darker you look. Good Luck!
