A tanning spray is just that - a spray. It's the same as if you lathered the tanning cream on your body. Won't last very long, a couple of showers and it's gone. Did you ever watch Dancing with the Stars? That's where the dancers get their overall tans.
Most fake tans promote that you'll be avoiding cancer by using it but I don't know if they all do. Don't use too much, you don't want to be orange.
A spray on tan won't do you any harm, other than turning you orange.
